The Economic Development Bank (BDE) has introduced a new financing program to help licensed doctors establish, acquire, or expand their medical practices in Puerto Rico. The goal is to enable families to access medical appointments, treatments, and services more quickly in their communities. The initiative aims to address one of the main challenges facing the healthcare system: providing professionals with the necessary tools to develop their practices in Puerto Rico.
The government seeks to eliminate economic barriers for more professionals to remain practicing in Puerto Rico, strengthening the healthcare system.
The program offers loans of up to $1.5 million for the purchase of medical offices, acquisition of machinery and specialized equipment, and permanent improvements to facilities. Loan terms can extend up to 20 years, with a possible 12-month moratorium on principal payments, allowing doctors to establish their services before starting to repay the loan. Additionally, it includes a revolving line of credit of up to $25,000 to cover operational expenses such as payroll, rent, and utilities, offering greater flexibility during the early stages of a medical practice.
