Two individuals, José A. Rivera Torres, 38, and Vicmanuel Colón González, 29, were charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, and six counts of violating the Weapons Law in connection with a massacre that occurred on June 17, 2025, in Las Marías. The victims, Krystal A. Martínez Román, Agnes I. Rivera Castillo, and Ramón L.
Soto Vázquez, all 29, were kidnapped in Mayagüez and taken to a remote area in Las Marías, where they were forced to run and shot. A fourth person was injured with a blunt weapon. The case was investigated by Agent Ángel López Sánchez of the Mayagüez CIC's Homicide Division, and the charges were filed by Prosecutor Luis A. Flores Velázquez. Judge Luis F.
Padilla Galeano determined there was probable cause for arrest and set bail at $3.1 million, which the defendants did not pay. Rivera Torres and Colón González are not the only ones charged in connection with the massacre, as Luis O. Rivera Rivera and Ryan J. Rodríguez Otero were also charged in July last year, with bail set at $3.1 million and $3.8 million, respectively, and Carlos Ruemmele Torres pleaded guilty to the charges.
