Published Jul 24, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

At 17 years old, Yannik Álvarez is already considered the main promise of Puerto Rican tennis. In his first Central American and Caribbean Games, Álvarez acknowledged that this label brings great expectations, but he prefers to focus on enjoying each opportunity in his young career.

He will debut in the singles tournament in Santo Domingo 2026 against Mexican Guillermo Tunas, and will also compete in doubles with Leonardo Vega. Álvarez, ranked 13th in the global junior rankings, has been preparing in Georgia for the tournament and is excited to represent Puerto Rico.

He hopes to use this event as the beginning of a long trajectory representing his country, including potentially in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Before joining the University of Georgia, Álvarez plans to participate in more important competitions to improve his ranking.
