Ten Puerto Rican educators have been selected to participate in the 2026 Pilar Barbosa Internship, a program aimed at strengthening educational leadership through academic and professional training experiences in Washington D.C. The delegation, consisting of eight teachers and two administrative educators, represents the Regional Educational Offices (ORE) of San Juan, Arecibo, Bayamón, Mayagüez, and Ponce.
From August 10 to 21, 2026, they will receive specialized training in educational leadership, technology integration, innovative pedagogical strategies, bilingual education, and federal education policy at The Washington Center. Senator Brenda Pérez Soto emphasized the importance of investing in the professional development of educators to improve learning opportunities for students and strengthen Puerto Rico's education system.
The program, administered by the Joint Commission of the Pilar Barbosa Internship Program in Education, will allow participants to exchange experiences with experts and acquire knowledge to implement in their educational institutions, benefiting thousands of Puerto Rican students.
