César González Ortiz, president of the Asociación de Inspectores de Juegos de Azar (AIJA), demanded on Tuesday the reimbursement of travel expenses and the implementation of a fair Classification and Compensation plan for employees of the Comisión de Juegos. Inspectors provide services across Puerto Rico, attending various casinos and covering gas expenses out of pocket, but the Comisión de Juegos takes months to reimburse them.
González Ortiz stated that this reimbursement should not take more than a week, as workers live paycheck to paycheck. He emphasized that inspectors process payments for prizes and oversee game rooms that generate millions of dollars for the Puerto Rico government, making it unacceptable for them to spend $200, $300, or $400 out of pocket each month.
The AIJA also denounced an anti-worker attitude and intimidation by the Office of Human Resources, including threats against union representatives.
