A boat captain, identified as Pedro Rafael Ortiz Cheverón, died by drowning in Culebra after jumping into the water to assist another vessel that was adrift. The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 9:43 p.m. at Ensenada Honda beach.
According to the police report, Ortiz Cheverón jumped into the water and requested a life jacket, but it sank immediately and he was not seen again. After a search, his body was found floating in the area.
The case is being handled by the Homicide Division of the Cuerpo de Investigaciones Criminales (CIC) in Fajardo.
