The National Meteorological Service (SNM) in San Juan reported that a drier and more stable weather pattern will continue to dominate Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands in the coming days, with intense heat being the main risk for the population. According to meteorologists, the early morning was calm in the region, with light and variable winds and mostly clear skies, allowing temperatures to drop to the mid-70s Fahrenheit in coastal and urban areas and between the high 60s and low 70s in mountainous areas. A high-pressure system over the western Atlantic will continue to strengthen, maintaining east-southeast winds on Thursday and shifting to east-northeast on Friday.
A drier air mass will also continue to filter over the region, favoring a more stable environment until Saturday. As a result, rainfall will be limited to the typical pattern for this time of year, with brief showers expected in the morning and isolated showers possible in the afternoon. However, the SNM indicated that the strengthening winds will help keep rainfall moving, limiting accumulation and keeping the risk of flooding low.
The main risk will continue to be the heat, with temperatures expected to reach the high 80s and low 90s Fahrenheit in coastal and urban areas and the low 80s in the mountains. A heat warning remains in effect for Thursday.
