The San Germán History Museum has inaugurated a permanent exhibition dedicated to José 'Piculín' Ortiz, considered the best Puerto Rican basketball player of all time. The exhibition, titled 'Piculín: De San Germán para el Mundo Entero', showcases Ortiz's career from his beginnings with the Atléticos in San Germán to his successful years in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN), the NBA, and European basketball. The exhibit is open to the public, free of charge, from Thursday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., until October. The museum is located at Félix Arce #32, corner of De la Cruz, in the urban area of San Germán.
The exhibition documents Ortiz's rise from being discovered as a talent in San Germán to becoming one of the most important figures in Puerto Rican sports history. It highlights his championships with the Atléticos de San Germán and the Cangrejeros de Santurce, as well as his time in the NBA and European basketball. The initiative was promoted by the BSN, through its vice president, Fernando Quiñones, in conjunction with the board of directors of the San Germán History Museum, chaired by José F. Lluch.
During the inauguration, sports historian and former Atléticos owner Armandito Torres Ortiz presented a tour of Piculín's career and shared anecdotes about the player's life and legacy. Silvia Ríos, Ortiz's widow, thanked the tribute to the legendary player.
