Khenalu, a Puerto Rican brand, has launched its first collection, 'Tropicana Criolla', which features swimwear, t-shirts, shorts, and cover-ups with prints inspired by Puerto Rican culture. The brand's creator, Keren Encarnación, aims to highlight the essence of Puerto Rican culture in her designs.
The collection is inspired by the architecture of Puerto Rican homes from the 20th century, specifically the 'losas criollas' from her grandmother's house. Encarnación, a 26-year-old designer, creates all the prints used in her brand's pieces, a skill she acquired after studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
She decided to return to Puerto Rico after completing her studies to contribute to the island's culture and economy. Khenalu's mission is to demonstrate that good things can be produced in Puerto Rico, promoting the island, its people, and culture.
