Sara López, the Central American champion of compound archery, was in Puerto Rico when a 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit her hometown of Pereira, Colombia. López followed the emergency through messages, calls, and videos from her family and friends.
She was with her husband, Jean Pizarro, president of the Puerto Rico Archery Federation, when she received the first messages. López's family confirmed they were safe, but she began to panic as she saw videos of the damage, including one of her own training field in Pereira, which was destroyed.
The field, named after her, was a project that took over a decade to complete. López and Pizarro had been preparing to go to training when they received the news, but instead, they watched as the situation unfolded through videos and messages.
