The acclaimed Puerto Rican film 'Esta isla' will begin a tour in nine US cities in August as part of the BoriCorridor Screening Tour, presenting at cultural spaces that gather Puerto Rican diaspora communities. The tour, organized by BoriCorridor in collaboration with Experimento Lúdico and Puerto Rican cultural organizations in the diaspora, will bring one of the most notable local productions of recent years to communities in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Colorado, New York, and Texas. Each screening will include a post-film conversation to promote dialogue among the audience about a story deeply rooted in contemporary Puerto Rican reality.
The film's directors, Lorraine Jones Molina and Cristian Carretero, expressed their excitement to share the film with Puerto Rican communities in the US. 'Esta isla' had its world premiere at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, where it won awards for Best Emerging Direction and Best Photography, and received a Special Jury Mention. In 2026, the film won the John Cassavetes Award at the Film Independent Spirit Awards. The cast includes Zion Ortiz, Fabiola Brown, Teófilo Torres, Georgina Borris, Audicio Robles, and Xavier Morales.
The film will be screened at various venues, including Aguanile Boricua Social Club in Denver, Loisaida Center and Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture in New York, and several locations in Massachusetts and Connecticut. The directors will participate in the presentations in Massachusetts.
