The ACLU of Puerto Rico and the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) School of Law's Legal Assistance Clinic held a press conference denouncing what they called arbitrary and abusive decisions against immigrants in Puerto Rico. They cited the most recent case as that of Francisco Areche Minaya, a Dominican citizen who has lived in Puerto Rico for 28 years, has no criminal record, and is the father of a U.S. citizen.

According to the ACLU, Areche Minaya was arbitrarily detained on August 11. The organization alleges that authorities denied him bail.

His daughter, a UPR medical student, described during the press conference the repercussions her father's detention has had on their family.
