Published Aug 24, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

Humanidades Puerto Rico is launching a new series called Conversaciones en Jazz, which combines live music and conversation to bring the audience closer to the ideas, stories, and musical decisions that make up jazz. The first event, free of charge, will take place on August 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cuartel de Ballajá in San Juan.

The series will feature a didactic approach, with musicians explaining their repertoire and conversing about their histories, musical decisions, and improvisation. The first concert will feature a trio consisting of Gabriel Rodríguez on bass, Richard Peña on guitar, and Fidel Morales on drums, who is also the organizer of the series.

The series will continue with concerts on September 24, October 22, and November 18, and is part of Humanidades Puerto Rico's efforts to support cultural creation, research, and conversation in the country. The series aims to recognize jazz as a living practice and prepare for the celebration of International Jazz Day on April 30, proclaimed by UNESCO to recognize jazz's ability to foster intercultural dialogue, freedom of expression, and diversity.
