Angely Pagán, mother of a student in Yauco, publicly denounced what she calls a lack of diligence by authorities investigating her son’s allegations that classmates forced him to take a fentanyl pill last month. Posting on Facebook, Pagán described the incident, which occurred on August 10, as one of the hardest moments her family has faced.
She said her son Yendriel returned home from school that afternoon showing erratic behavior—restlessness, sweating, crying, delirium, and unusual speech. The next day, after his behavior worsened, the family took him to Pavía Hospital in Yauco. On the way, Yendriel allegedly told his parents a classmate gave him an 'empanadilla' pill and threatened to kill him and his whole family if he didn’t take it.
At Pavía Hospital, Pagán relayed the allegations to doctors; the boy was later transferred to the Medical Center in Río Piedras and then to San Juan Capestrano Hospital, where he was discharged on August 15 with a diagnosis of mild psychosis linked to trauma. Unsatisfied, Pagán took her son for additional testing on August 18, and on August 20 was informed the results were positive for fentanyl.
She says she and the boy’s father have made multiple efforts to clarify the situation without success.
