Francisco Lindor, the Puerto Rican shortstop for the New York Mets, has seen a drastic decline in stolen bases this season, with only three successful steals in five attempts. This is a significant reduction from his 31 stolen bases in 37 attempts during the 2025 season, which tied his career high.
Lindor suffered a left calf injury in April that kept him out of action for two months, and since his return on June 20, he has only attempted to steal one base, on August 7 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Mets as a team are also struggling with stolen bases, tied for 12th in the National League with 76 steals, and 21st overall in the majors.
Juan Soto, another Mets star, has also reduced his stolen base production, with only eight steals this season after leading the National League with 38 in 2025. Soto has also dealt with a calf injury, and Lindor's position in the lineup, just ahead of Soto, may also be a factor in his cautious approach to stealing bases.
