LUMA Energy has yet to replace streetlights in nine Puerto Rico municipalities, says fixes to come by January

Published Sep 7, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

Less than two weeks before the ninth anniversary of Hurricane María, LUMA Energy has not carried out any streetlight replacement work in nine Puerto Rico municipalities, according to the report. The utility consortium stated that this situation will change no later than January, once it receives funding obligations from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

The report does not specify which nine municipalities are affected, but ties the delay directly to the pending release of federal disaster-recovery funds tied to Hurricane María damage.
