San Juan Mayor Miguel A. Romero Lugo attributed the accumulation of confiscated vehicles in Río Piedras lots to a junk collection and removal effort dating back to 2021.
However, he did not specify when the junk will be disposed of. Independent representative Denis Márquez denounced the accumulation of hundreds of vehicles near the urban center of Río Piedras and called on the municipal government to take action, citing environmental concerns.
According to the mayor, between 2021 and 2026, a total of 5,148 abandoned vehicles have entered the municipal lot as part of the municipality's efforts to address abandoned, dilapidated, or junk vehicles. The municipal administration will continue to evaluate alternatives to expedite the disposal of vehicles remaining in the lot, while maintaining the process of identification, notification, removal, and disposal established in current regulations.
