Judge Arelys Ortiz Rivera of the San Juan Tribunal determined there was cause for the arrest of 61-year-old Alberto Juan Esteves Vergne for attempted robbery and possession and use of a bladed weapon. According to the San Juan CIC Robbery Division investigation, on September 7, Esteves Vergne entered Farmacia Caridad on Ashford Avenue in Condado and was confronted by an employee when he attempted to leave without paying for merchandise.

It is alleged that he showed a knife and threatened the employee to escape, and later threatened a homeless person outside the pharmacy with the same bladed weapon. The knife was seized as evidence.

Agent Sylvia Nieves Rodríguez led the investigation under the supervision of Sergeant Joanlee Rivera Ramos, and prosecutor María Sophia Cruz Colón formulated the charges. Esteves Vergne was jailed at the Bayamón Correctional Complex's Institution 705 after failing to post $40,000 bail.
