The Baloncesto Superior Nacional Femenino (BSNF) will honor Carlos Calcaño, a respected figure in Puerto Rican basketball, by dedicating its 52nd season to him. The dedication was announced during a press conference at Telemundo's facilities, where the season will begin on Saturday with a doubleheader. Yanira Liceaga, Director of Operations for the BSNF, shared stories and anecdotes from Calcaño's career, including his time as a player and coach, and his work with the national teams.
Calcaño, who debuted in the BSN in 1971 and has led the Gigantes de Carolina for the past 11 seasons, was visibly emotional as he received the dedication, accompanied by his daughters. He has won five championships and one runner-up title as a coach. Calcaño expressed his gratitude to God and the BSNF, stating that the recognition is an honor he receives with humility, and that it is not a farewell from the sport.
The BSNF's recognition of Calcaño highlights his contributions to Puerto Rican basketball, which have spanned generations and both men's and women's basketball.
