Yasiel Puig, a 35-year-old Cuban outfielder, will play for the San Juan Senators in the upcoming Puerto Rican winter league. Puig previously played in Puerto Rico for the Mayagüez Indians during the 2012-13 season, batting .232 with 16 hits, one home run, and nine runs batted in.
He made his Major League debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013 and played seven seasons with the Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, and Cleveland Indians, accumulating a .277 batting average, 834 hits, 132 home runs, 415 runs batted in, and 79 stolen bases. Puig was an All-Star in 2014 and helped the Dodgers reach the World Series in 2017 and 2018.
After his last MLB season in 2019, Puig has played in international leagues, including Mexico, South Korea, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela. The San Juan Senators have added a player with Major League experience and knowledge of Puerto Rican winter baseball.
