A 31-year-old citizen in the Laguna Gardens urbanization in Carolina reported a fraud attempt to the police. The victim received a phone call from a man claiming to be a federal agent, stating that there was an outstanding arrest warrant against him.
The scammer demanded that the victim take online psychology classes or pay $2,500 to avoid detention. The victim suspected a scam and reported the incident to the authorities without making any payment or providing personal or financial information.
Agent Belbel Recci is leading the investigation. The police are warning citizens not to send money or share personal or financial information in response to such calls, as authorities do not request payments to avoid arrests or suspend judicial orders.
