The bonsai, valued at approximately $8,000, is a Neea buxifolia tree recognized for its exposed roots and mature design.
Valentín shared on social media that a reward is being offered for its safe return, and that anyone with information can contact 787-502-2450 or drop off the tree at the restaurant. The Puerto Rico Police Department has filed a complaint and is investigating the case, with the Cuerpo de Investigaciones Criminales (CIC) of San Juan handling the investigation.
The community of bonsai enthusiasts on the island is small, and the tree has distinctive marks and a structure that make it identifiable. Valentín urged the community to share the post and help spread the word to recover the stolen bonsai, which requires specialized care to survive.
