Adrián Ventura Torres, a 29-year-old man, was involved in a workplace accident on June 7, 2024, in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, while installing a 15-foot structure for a soccer game billboard. The structure fell on him, causing a spinal fracture and leaving him quadriplegic.
Adrián and his coworkers were under pressure to finish the installation, and they decided to lift the structure manually without a licensed crane operator. Adrián's mother, Amarat Torres Bonano, described her son as 'a miracle' and is seeking innovative treatment options for him outside of Puerto Rico.
Adrián was conscious throughout the ordeal, despite losing a significant amount of blood, and even argued with ambulance personnel to turn on the sirens while en route to the hospital. Adrián and his mother are now living in Toa Baja, where he is adapting to life in a wheelchair.
