A man was shot during a carjacking incident at a Texaco gas station in Bayamón on Sunday night, according to the Police. The incident occurred at approximately 10:41 p.m. when the victim arrived at the gas station to sell a cell phone and was intercepted by several individuals armed with a firearm and a tube. The suspects assaulted the victim with the tube and shot him in the leg before fleeing in his Toyota RAV4.
The victim was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition. The case has been referred to the Cuerpo de Investigaciones Criminales (CIC) of Bayamón. According to police statistics, Bayamón has seen an increase in carjacking cases this year, with 31 reported so far, compared to 24 at the same time last year.
In contrast, Puerto Rico as a whole has seen a reduction of 41 carjacking cases.
