The US Army's 1st Mission Support Command and the Puerto Rico Police Department (PRPD) will conduct a joint anti-terrorism workshop and active shooter simulation from September 17 to 18 at the US Army Reserve Center in Puerto Nuevo. The exercise aims to strengthen preparation, optimize response times, and improve interoperability between military personnel and local law enforcement during critical incidents.
Participating units include the 49th Multifunctional Medical Battalion and PRPD's Special Arrests Unit. According to Sergeant José Nieves Colón, the exercise's goal is to ensure that personnel and local law enforcement are aligned, coordinated, and prepared to respond decisively in case of an emergency.
Residents and drivers in the area may notice an increased presence of military police, PRPD vehicles, and emergency responders, and may hear sirens, alarms, and simulated gunfire. The Military Police will maintain strict control of the perimeter, and access to the Puerto Nuevo center may be temporarily restricted or redirected to maintain security protocols.
