Family members of Gabriela Nicole Pratts Rosario, killed in Aibonito in August 2025, said they can now begin a new chapter after Anthonieska Avilés Cabrera, 18, pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder in the case. Prosecutors and the defense notified Judge Juan A.
Reyes Colón of the Aibonito court that they had reached a plea deal amending the original charge to second-degree murder; Avilés Cabrera waived her right to a jury trial through two motions. The Prosecutor's Office requested a 37.5-year sentence for the murder charge, consecutive to 6 months and a day for a Weapons Law violation, totaling 38 years and one day in prison.
Relatives said they had not expected the plea agreement and had hoped for other statements from Avilés Cabrera, but she only reiterated the innocence of her mother, Elvia Cabrera Rivera, during her final remarks. In a separate trial, Cabrera Rivera was sentenced last Thursday to 102 years in prison after a jury found her guilty of first-degree murder and violating the Weapons Law.
