Published Sep 15, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

The Puerto Rico Judiciary has launched a new service in the Electronic Tribunal, allowing users to request mediation services online. According to Maite Oronoz Rodríguez, President of the Supreme Court, this expansion recognizes that not all controversies require the same adversarial process.

Since its launch on September 15, 2025, the Electronic Tribunal has received 166,550 requests, including 66,857 municipal competency cases, a 26% increase from the previous period. Requests for protection orders and involuntary admissions for mental health increased by 25% and 45%, respectively.

The platform has also received 99,693 requests for traffic ticket reviews, a 44% decrease from the previous year. The Judiciary reports that most users complete their requests in 30 minutes or less, with over half doing so from outside a judicial center.
