Truck Spills Cargo on PR-22 Highway, Causing Lane Closure

Published Sep 15, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

A truck with mechanical issues spilled part of its stone cargo on PR-22 highway, causing the closure of a lane from San Juan to Arecibo. The incident occurred at kilometer 9.1, and as a safety measure, the central lane remains closed while Metropistas personnel clean the area. Initially, more lanes were closed, but the left and right lanes were later reopened.

According to Captain Elvis Zeno, director of the Highway Patrol and Traffic Bureau, the truck driver apparently did not notice the spill and drove for about a kilometer before being stopped at kilometer 10.2. The cleaning crew will load the spilled stones back onto the truck. About nine vehicles were damaged, and the police reported heavy traffic congestion in both directions.

The incident happened on Tuesday morning.
