Puerto Rico's Department of Justice is evaluating potential charges for alleged crimes that occurred "after" the murder of Gabriela Nicole Pratts Rosario in Aibonito, Justice Secretary Lourdes Gómez said. Gómez, in an interview with Radio Isla 1320, stressed no one else will be charged for the killing itself, since Elvia Cabrera was sentenced to 102 years for first-degree murder and her daughter Anthonieska Avilés received 38 years and a day for second-degree murder after a plea deal reclassified the charge.
Chief prosecutor Juan Ramos García said in Aibonito court that any new charges depend on "interest" and available evidence, noting there are affected parties. According to trial evidence, on the night of August 10 a fight broke out at the "Roberto Colón" detour in Aibonito, during which Avilés stabbed Pratts Rosario eleven times; another young man was also wounded by a bladed weapon.
Police earlier mentioned an alleged vehicle theft, but Ramos said that remains "under investigation." Prosecutor Myriam Nieves said obtaining complete evidence will be key to filing new charges for offenses "not directly related to the murder" but occurring afterward.
