Carlyanis Santiago Gutiérrez, a student-athlete from the Universidad Ana G. Méndez (UAGM), won three bronze medals in the 57-kilogram category at the 2026 FISU World University Championships in weightlifting, held in Doha, Qatar. Santiago Gutiérrez achieved 81 kilograms in the snatch event and 96 kilograms in the clean and jerk event, resulting in a total of 177 kilograms.
Other Puerto Rican athletes, including Mileysa Lebrón Escuedro and Lisandra Arroyo Mejías from UAGM, and Yadiel Torres Cordero from the Universidad de Puerto Rico (UPR), also competed in their respective categories. Lebrón Escuedro finished fourth with 137 kilograms in the 49-kilogram category, while Arroyo Mejías finished sixth with 163 kilograms in the 53-kilogram category. Torres Cordero finished fourth with 209 kilograms in the 65-kilogram category.
Additional athletes from UPR, including Yopatrick Peguero, Gabriela de León, Ángel Fraticelli, Mónica Sotográs, Jesús Morales, and Abraham Díaz, are scheduled to compete in their respective categories on Thursday and Friday.
