Félix 'El Cano' Delgado Montalvo, the former mayor of Cataño, has announced his entry into the special election to be held by the Partido Nuevo Progresista (PNP) on September 27. The election aims to choose a candidate to take over the municipality after the death of Julio Alicea Vasallo.
Delgado Montalvo stated that individuals associated with the five remaining candidates have approached him seeking 'guidance or help'. He also referenced his past corruption conviction and subsequent prison sentence, expressing remorse for his actions.
The candidates in the running include Bethzaida Rodríguez Torres, Hiram Torres Montalvo, Félix Matías Rodríguez, Fernando 'Tato' Cintrón Mercado, and José Manuel Rodríguez Ocaña. Delgado Montalvo had previously chosen not to publicly comment on the special election, but felt it necessary to do so given the circumstances and questions surrounding the election.
