Ariel Torres Meléndez, president of the Corporación para la Defensa del Poseedor de Licencia de Armas de Puerto Rico (CODEPOLA), has requested that the Puerto Rico Police Superintendent, Joseph González, issue an administrative order to extend the validity of gun licenses due to a lack of printers and ink in police stations. The issue has been reported in the Bayamón, Caguas, Guayama, and Mayagüez police stations, among others.
According to Torres Meléndez, CODEPOLA has received numerous complaints from members who submitted their renewal, duplicate, or new license applications with all required documents and payments but have not received their cards due to the lack of printing materials. Despite being told that the cards would be mailed, none of the affected individuals have received them.
Torres Meléndez emphasized that citizens who have complied with the law should not be exposed to fines or intervention due to the police department's lack of resources.
