Jamille Torres, the head of the Puerto Rico men's national volleyball team, defended his team's performance this summer despite dropping to 27th in the world rankings and failing to qualify for the World Championship or the Pre-Olympic tournament. Torres noted that the team had positive results earlier in the summer, including winning gold in Mexico and silver in the Pan American Cup, with a record of 11-4 in the first three events.
However, the team's performance declined in the last two tournaments, including the Norceca Championship, where they lost four consecutive matches to Mexico. Torres acknowledged that the losing streak against Mexico was unacceptable but emphasized that Mexico is a tough opponent that can win any match against Puerto Rico.
The team played the second half of the summer with their main squad and the best available personnel.
