The Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) activated its protocol for handling domestic violence and gender-based violence cases for the second time this year after the arrest of José Manuel Baeza, the representative of the Capitanes de Arecibo team. Baeza, also the president and CEO of Teselta, was detained on Tuesday afternoon for allegedly violating the Law 54, which deals with domestic violence prevention and intervention.
The BSN stated that activating the protocol allows for internal procedures to begin, but does not determine the veracity of the allegations or Baeza's responsibility. The league respects the presumption of innocence and due process.
This is the second time the protocol has been activated this year, with the first instance occurring on June 18 against Walter Hodge Jr., a player for the Cangrejeros de Santurce, who was later cleared of charges. The BSN established the protocol after a 2017 case involving Hodge Jr.
