Numen, a new restaurant in Old San Juan, has opened under the culinary direction of Puerto Rican chef Juan José Cuevas. Located on the 11th floor of the historic Banco Popular building on Tetuán Street, Numen offers a gastronomic experience with Art Deco architecture, bay views, and a menu inspired by Cuevas' travels and experiences in the kitchens of Alain Ducasse, El Racó de Can Fabes, Blue Hill, Noma, and The French Laundry.
The menu combines Mediterranean traditions with Puerto Rican identity and fresh, seasonal ingredients, featuring dishes such as Chilled Poached Eggplant and Seafood 'Aqua Pazza' and Prime NY with crispy potato, creamy herbs, roasted mushrooms, and persillade. The restaurant also emphasizes wine as part of the gastronomic experience, with labels from Spain and Italy, and offers a classic cocktail bar with a focus on martinis.
Cuevas, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, has received recognition from the International Academy of Gastronomy and a nomination for the James Beard Awards, and previously worked at 1919 in Condado.
