A man and a woman were arrested on Thursday after a violent pursuit that began in Bayamón, according to the Police. The chase started when the electronic surveillance system of a Bayamón Municipal Police patrol car issued an alert about a stolen 2003 white Ford Econoline van. Police units followed the vehicle through various roads in Bayamón, including PR-28, PR-5, and the Bobby Capó avenue, until the suspects abandoned the van in the Urbanización Jardines de Caparra to take the Tren Urbano.
During the escape, the 36-year-old driver crashed into a State Police vehicle and hit a municipal police officer on his motorcycle. The officer repelled the attack by shooting at the vehicle three times. The suspects were detained at the Martínez Nadal Tren Urbano station in Guaynabo.
The 29-year-old woman was injured by a gunshot and is receiving medical attention, while the man is being held at the Bayamón municipal police station.
