The Puerto Rico Police are searching for José M. García Rodríguez, 22, also known as 'Mamut', who is accused of a double homicide that occurred on May 10, 2023, in Coamo. García Rodríguez allegedly shot and killed Nathanael Sánchez Massa, 22, and Maryaline Rivera Santiago, 53, at the El Chotis business in the Zambrana neighborhood. A 60-year-old man was also injured in the shooting.
The victims and the injured man were all from Coamo. According to the police investigation, several shooters fired from a car with different caliber weapons, including a rifle, towards the front of the business. Sánchez Massa had entered the establishment seeking refuge but was hit by the shots. Rivera Santiago, who had no connection to the young man, was buying merchandise at the store when the shooting occurred.
The police believe she was used as a human shield. The shooting is thought to have been related to a dispute over control of drug points. Other suspects in the case include Wilfredo 'Bemba' Bonilla David, 23; Alberto 'Gárgola' De Jesús López, 23; and Alexander 'Gordo' Torres Orengo, 29. A fifth suspect, Christopher Martínez Rodríguez, 23, was killed in January 2025, along with a 17-year-old teenager, in Ponce.
