Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernández announced nearly $43 million ($42,998,109.54) in FEMA funding for recovery and infrastructure projects across 18 municipalities. The money comes through FEMA's Public Assistance Program, which funds emergency work and repair, restoration or replacement of infrastructure damaged by declared disasters, plus mitigation for future disasters. Major allocations include $9.2 million for the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources to restore the recreational pier at Punta Santiago in Humacao; $7.7 million for the Department of Transportation and Public Works to replace Bridge 1199 over the Tanamá River in Arecibo; $5.3 million for the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority for materials for emergency electrical repairs after Hurricane Fiona, covering transmission and distribution lines, feeders and substations; $3.6 million for Comerío for the Manuel Reyes Basketball Complex parking area; $2.3 million for Guánica for recreational facilities including the Mariano "Tito" Rodríguez Coliseum and Sylvia Castro Passive Park; $1.6 million for Jayuya for roads in the Gripiñas neighborhood damaged by Hurricane Maria; and over $1 million for Barranquitas for repairs to Camino La Ceiba in Quebradillas.
Hernández said the funds support ongoing projects on roads, bridges, recreational facilities, and water and energy infrastructure, and pledged continued monitoring to ensure funds reach the communities that need them.
