The National Meteorological Service in San Juan issued a special statement on Saturday afternoon warning of strong thunderstorms extending from Toa Alta and Naranjito to Ciales. Radar detected the thunderstorm area at 3:05 p.m., with gusty winds over 50 miles per hour, hail, lightning, and funnel clouds possible. The Meteorological Service advised seeking safe shelter within a building or vehicle, as lightning can strike up to 10 miles from the storm.
The thunderstorms may also bring torrential rains that could cause sudden flooding, and drivers are warned not to drive on flooded roads. The affected municipalities include Corozal, Naranjito, Vega Alta, Morovis, Orocovis, Ciales, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, Vega Baja, Florida, Barranquitas, and Comerio.
