Police in Puerto Rico are holding a 16-year-old boy suspected of fatally stabbing his grandmother and wounding his adult brother at the Santa María Shopping Center in Guaynabo. Lieutenant José Carrión, assistant director of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations (CIC) in Bayamón, told El Nuevo Día the suspect is in custody at the Juvenile Affairs Division of the Guaynabo Police Command.
The incident occurred around 2:10 p.m. in front of the Pepe Ganga store while the family was shopping. Carrión did not provide details on what may have prompted the alleged attack on family members. Authorities have not released the identities of the elderly woman or the brother, nor disclosed his health condition.
The Bayamón Command's press office confirmed the timing and location. A 911 call alerted authorities, and responding officers found a woman's body with stab wounds and a man with wounds from a sharp object; he was taken to a nearby hospital, though his condition was not disclosed.
