The Puerto Rico Judiciary is preparing judges and staff for the implementation of Law 157 of 2026, which will transfer condominium dispute cases from the Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO) to the courts. Around 30 judges will be trained to handle specialized condominium dispute cases in each of the 13 judicial regions. Judge Maritere Colón Domínguez, auxiliary administrative director of the Courts, stated that all civil court judges have begun training to handle these cases.
The law will take effect on October 29, 90 days after its enactment. The Judiciary plans to train all civil court judges, with additional training for those who will preside over the specialized condominium dispute courts. Judges will be selected by regional administrative judges.
