Authorities will file charges this afternoon over burns suffered by a 5-year-old boy more than a year ago in Canóvanas. El Nuevo Día learned that seven people were summoned for the filing of complaints at the Carolina Court. According to the preliminary report, the situation was reported on the afternoon of September 4, 2025, when the boy's mother took him to a scheduled appointment at the offices of the Department of the Family.
A social worker, who later filed the complaint, noticed the child had a bandage on his right leg and alerted the 9-1-1 Emergency System. During an interview with the social worker, the mother admitted the child had suffered a burn on August 27 at their home in the Jesús T. Piñero public housing development in Canóvanas, and that she had not taken him for medical attention, police reported.
The child was later transported by Department of the Family personnel to a hospital in San Juan, where he was evaluated by an on-duty physician. The case was investigated by the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) of the Carolina police region.
