The Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico's Metro Campus and CeDIn, the institution's laboratory school, were evacuated this morning due to a gas leak, confirmed spokesperson Zaima Negrón. The incident occurred near the PR-1 exit in San Juan, but authorities later allowed students and staff to re-enter the premises. According to a Puerto Rico Police report, the incident was reported at 8:54 a.m. and involved a gas leak on Francisco Seín street, near the La Venganza business and Shell garage in Cupey.
Two people were affected and received medical attention from Emergency Medical Services personnel. The origin of the leak is unknown. As a precautionary measure, the university and nearby buildings were evacuated while firefighters and emergency management personnel worked to control the situation and determine the cause of the leak.
