Governor Jenniffer González Colón laid the cornerstone for the remodeling of the parking lot at the Plaza del Mercado in Yauco, a project with an investment of $2,581,481.50 aimed at improving access to the downtown area and strengthening the municipality's commercial activity. During her visit, the governor also handed over four property titles, toured the Jardín del Paraíso housing project, and delivered a new residence to a resident affected by the earthquakes that struck southern Puerto Rico.

She said the goal in Yauco is to turn recovery funds into visible, usable works, noting the parking lot will ease access to the market and downtown businesses while also addressing families' need for a safe home and certainty that their property belongs to them. The parking lot, located on Calle Comercio, is financed through the City Revitalization Program (CRP).

The construction phase began on August 31, 2026, with an execution period of 239 days. Project estimates indicate the work will generate 37 direct jobs and benefit more than 36,475 people. The scope includes land acquisition, repaving and re-marking of spaces, ADA-compliant accessible parking, new sidewalks and curbs, improvements to the storm drainage system, and solar LED lighting.
