Héctor Ferrer Santiago, the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) spokesperson in the House of Representatives, questioned a decision by Energy czar Josué Colón not to waive attorney-client privilege so that his lawyer, Juan González, could testify before the House Government Committee about his actions related to the Power Expectations contract. Ferrer Santiago asked why Colón does not want his own attorney to explain what steps were taken on the contract, saying that if everything was done correctly, if there is nothing to hide and if the process was transparent, there should be no problem with the lawyer appearing to explain what happened.
He said this conduct contrasts with what one would expect from someone holding the Energy czar post: transparency, accountability and complete willingness to explain decisions made from a position of such public responsibility. Ferrer Santiago noted the refusal takes on greater relevance after the chair of the Government Committee, Víctor Parés, reported that Colón keeps the attorney-client privilege in force, which prevents González from testifying about his actions related to Power Expectations.
