The Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for Puerto Rico's manufacturing sector decreased to 52.9 in August, according to data from the Institute of Statistics. This is the lowest reading in three months. An index above 50 suggests expansion of the manufacturing sector compared to the previous month, while a reading below 50 indicates contraction.

The sub-indices for deliveries and inventories increased in August compared to the previous month. The sub-indices for employment, production, inventories, and deliveries were at or above 50. The PMI has been above the 50 level for 122 of the last 196 months.

The index is based on responses to questionnaires sent periodically to purchasing professionals and executives from the largest manufacturing companies.
