Judge Iraida Rodríguez Castro of the San Juan Tribunal found cause for arrest against Miguel Ángel Castro González, a correctional officer at Complejo Correccional Las Cucharas in Ponce, for allegedly assaulting a 64-year-old inmate while in his custody at the Centro Médico in Río Piedras. During the hearing, Rodríguez Castro examined evidence presented by the San Juan Prosecutor's Office, following an investigation by the División de Integridad Pública y Oficina de Asuntos del Contralor (DIPAC).

A $5,000 bond was set, which Castro González paid, and he will remain free under electronic supervision, confirmed Lourdes L. Gómez Torres, Secretary of the Department of Justice. The incident occurred on August 20, when Castro González allegedly assaulted the inmate multiple times in the face and head area. Prosecutor Alexandra Bosch Rivera of DIPAC filed a charge of mistreating an elderly person under Article 127(a) of the Puerto Rico Penal Code. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 15.
