Rideshare Driver Charged with Sexual Assault of 19-Year-Old Tourist in Santurce

The San Juan Prosecutor's Office filed three criminal charges on Friday against Joshua J. Santiago Chevere, a driver for a ride-hailing company, for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old tourist in Santurce. According to the investigation, the incident occurred on the night of September 29 while Santiago Chevere was providing transportation service to the young woman. During that time, he allegedly engaged in sexual acts against her through physical force.

Prosecutor Jason Rivera Delgado, of the San Juan Prosecutor's Office Specialized Unit, filed three counts of sexual assault under Article 130 of the Puerto Rico Penal Code. Judge Lisa Durán of the San Juan Court of First Instance found probable cause for arrest on all the charges brought by prosecutors and set bail at $30,000.

Santiago Chevere will remain under electronic supervision. The preliminary hearing was scheduled for October 15. The investigation was led by agent Yenetamia Díaz Zayas of the Sex Crimes Division of the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in San Juan.
