Over 200 children and young people participated in the second national competition of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) at the Coliseo José 'Buga' Abreu in Isabela. The event, organized by Techno Inventors, tested participants’ knowledge and skills in areas like robotics, programming, engineering, critical thinking, and problem-solving. This competition follows the first national event held in San Juan in September, where over 450 children and young people participated.
The initiative aims to expand education opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for students from different regions in Puerto Rico. César Cabrera, president of Techno Inventors, highlighted the participation of young people from the western area and the organization’s interest in continuing to develop educational opportunities related to technology. Isabela Mayor Miguel Enrique 'Ricky' Méndez Pérez emphasized the importance of supporting educational initiatives that promote scientific and technological development among young people.
The competition is part of the preparation for the WRO International Final, which will be held in Puerto Rico for the first time from December 8 to 10, 2026, at the Puerto Rico Convention Center. Dr. Gloria Bonilla, president of Leap Social Enterprise, also highlighted the impact of bringing this type of educational experience to Puerto Rican young people, calling it 'a great step for the development and future of the island.'
