The Puerto Rico Women’s Under-14 National Team achieved two victories on Friday in the Pacific Cup water polo tournament in Peru. After being defeated by Chile on Thursday, the team tied 10-10 with Peru, then won in a penalty shootout, with goalkeeper Estela Orta Escalera named MVP. Orta Escalera made crucial saves, securing Puerto Rico’s first win.
The team later defeated Peru Azul 15-3, with Nahomy Rodríguez as the most valuable player. According to Joseline Collazo of the Puerto Rican Swimming Federation’s Water Polo Commission, the team showed character and competitive spirit, and the wins are an important boost ahead of the semifinals. The team will face the fourth-placed team if they finish first, or the third-placed team if they finish second.
Puerto Rico will aim to maintain their momentum and intensity to advance and compete for a place on the podium.
